CHOKING ON SHORT CORNERS

Player dropouts and a failure to convert short corners cost the hard-working and positive 5s the win.

New Beccehamians 1 - BOE 1

We had about 10 short corners, none successful. But we seemed to be doing everything right, they were just very good at defending them.

0-0 at half time, but we should have been several goals up. Just after the break a New Becs goal came from scrappy attacking play in a short corner after a mess in front of the keeper.

They flooded the D in defence which was annoying, and we were getting the short corners awarded, just no goals. As could be expected against a team that floods the D, we got good chances on runs down the ground. And that was kind of how we got our solitary goal. With 5 mins to go Ben hammered in the ball from the 25, yours truly made a classic reverse stick deflection.

Carney did an excellent job as goalkeeper, finding out at about midday that he'd have the whole game in goal. Thanks also to Ravi for jumping on board at the last minute. Thanks to Mark Ainley for umpiring.

Ben got man of the match, again, much to Zac's chagrin.

For perhaps the third or fourth week the 5s took to the field with no substitutes. But at least we had 11, and we know we can play with ten, as we have done so in past weeks.
