Better late than never

Finally the fives started the second half of their league fixtures. With the club having 800 goal keepers to choose from we found ourselves without a keeper!

Up stepped Mikael from the dynamos outfield section to don the pads again and rescue us. Up came Chris French from the dynamos and in came new old Dan. Off to the Heathens went Super VC Joni. No umpire so names in a hat and the two lucky winners to do a half each were Zac and James.

The pre match talk was thus. We need more self belief. We are as good as any team in this league but don't believe in ourselves. We tend to start games in second gear and come to life in the second half. Let's go at it from the start and stamp our authority on the game. We can smash it.

The game started exactly as planned. Slick passing, good control, excellent vision and a lot of pressure on the Marden defence. Soon we had a short corner and were looking for the first goal. Marden kept it out, broke away and scored! 0-1 down - not going to plan!

The rest of the first half did however go to plan, with the self belief and some fantastic hockey the fives went into the break 5-1 up. The equalising goal came from Chris French, controlling a high clearance and slapping in close to the left post. (The shot was however hit with such pace that it did take most of the first half to reach the back board !!!) . Moshin got one - no he didn't, new old Dan made sure it went in. Paul B bagged one on his return, Alex got one and new old Dan got a second. Mikael pulled off a few fine saves at the other end with Marden getting the occasional breakaway.

The second half was the same story with the super fives controlling the game and putting Marden under constant pressure. Alas no further goals came and Mikael got very cold in our goal. Excellent performances from Zac and James on the whistle and man of the match to Chris French (even though his shot still hasn't hit the backboard!!)
