FIVES FIREWORKS FIZZLE

A freezing afternoon in the wilds of Rochester was the scene for the latest mission of special forces "the Fives".

The plan was simple, keep doing what we are doing. Pass, pass, pass, score, win. Simples !!!!

Not so simples !!!

We started with sgt Whitney unveiling the hotly anticipated new boots, to much guffawing from the ret of the team. One pink, one yellow - can't see the problem!!! Hit man Thorns, once again in the pads due to lack of keepers #hero, was obviously jealous of the attention given to the new boots so decided to face plant the astro in the centre circle during the pre match warm up!! Blinding!!

But there was a game to be won, a prize to be secured.

We started as we had previously left off. Calm and controlled, passing, moving and working well. Within ten mins we were 1-0 up. Zac "twinkle toes" danced deftly into the D, took his time, picked his spot and creamed the ball into the backboard. We were on the road again. But sadly that's where the goal rush ended.

We lost our shape. Kept hold of the ball too long. Misplaced passes. It just didn't gel. We had more chances but the final touch was short, and should have gone into the break 3or4 to the good. Hit man Thorns made a terrific save near the break, which he claims he didn't even see, but I'm going to put it down to brilliance!!

The second half was more of the same. We just seemed to make it hard work for ourselves. However we kept our cool and panic did not set in. Just pure grit and determination. Our youngsters James and Ross found themselves on the deck a few times, but carried on letting their hockey do the talking. Stick tackles were abundant and mildly irritating, but still we just knuckled down.

And so finally the whistle ended the game, after it seemed a 90 minute second half and the fives marched off the victors. It wasn't our prettiest of performances but it was our gutsiest so far in the campaign. Everyone was 100% committed to the rest of the team and with the effort put in and at no time did our belief in ourselves falter. Congratulations to all on another victory and another clean sheet, (only one goal conceded in the league campaign!!!)

Thanks again to Hit Man for stepping into the pads and to Tino for travelling down and doing a fine job in controlling the game. Thanks also to Tino for the post match entertainment of trying to get an under age lad (UNBEKNOWN TO HIM) to get him a rum !?! Quality !!!

Scorer - Zac
MOM - Zac and James Elliot.

Folkestone next in a top of the table clash. Bring it on !!!
