Muntus and Messi Magic

So the Fantastic Fives started the day top of the league with a game in hand.
Unbeaten. Inspired by watching the Dynamos destroy Burnt Ash. Spirits were high

But a couple of bugs hit and disrupted the game plan. Jamie C our steadfast centre back, was struck down with a stomach bug and ended up having a passionate affair with his toilet !!!! [as did a few other members of the club]. The pitchero bug struck and available Ollie wasn't available so the team were at their bare 11. [valuable lesson to the captain to chase up the pitchero responses].

Old Willies gave us a good run for our money in the first game, where we came away 1-0 victors, so our backs were already against the wall. Did the boys hold back?? Did they pace themselves for the long game?? Nope !!! Straight out of the traps fives style, full on, fully committed, full speed. The hockey was not the prettiest played at College Meadow, but effective. The bulk of the pressure was from BOE, with OW having the odd insurgence into our 22. Although we had the pressure we didn't make it count, holding on too long and not spreading it around enough, therefore leaving the field at half time 0-0 but knowing that we could make it count.

The half time talk centred around the problems and therefore the solutions. The first 20 mins of the second half saw a different BOE. much more dominant. spreading the ball quicker, moving across the channels, passing more accurately. OW were on the ropes, but fighting gallantly, with their old guard still showing that they "had it", and their youngsters showing some great skill. But the pressure eventually told. Alex Muntus managing to squeeze the ball home gave the fives the lead, and was the icing on the cake for Alex's storming Man of the Match performance. The second came from young James "Messi" Elliot who found himself off the pitch in the side netting of the goal and still managed to dangle his stick around the post and knock the ball against the keepers back and in !!! Lineker and co would have labelled it an own goal but that's not going to wash in the fives!!

OW did not give up however. They piled on the pressure against the fives now starting to flag with no subs available. Damo had not been called on to do very much, as usual, with the 10 in front of him always cleaning up, but with 2 mins to go he made a spectacular stick save low to his right to keep a clean sheet. Top drawer mate !!

Once again a gritty performance from the fives and another victory. Could a captain ask for any more from his squad??
Yes he can !!!
Folkestone next week. Lets do it again !!!!!!

Thanks to Mark for keeping control and to our loyal spectators for their cheering and constructive advice!!!!!!

Well done Fives. This is amazing and each and every one is performing magnificently.
