More past than in, but a win is a win!!

In game 1 the fives came away victors in a hard fought game. Folkestones results had progressively improved, especially at home, including the scalp of arch rival GW!! The boys were expecting a toughie !!

45 mins before push back the team were assembled. Mentally prepared. Raring to go.
Warm up done. Short corners practised, and very slick.
Looking good.

And by golly it was good.
From the outset the fives were completely dominant. The youngsters of Folkestone, held together by some very classy old guard, had no response to the relentless pressure from the fives. The boys were completely in control. Never rushed, clean with passing, strong in tackling and in effort and fitness - totally on it !!!
The only thing missing, the final touch !! time after time the ball scorched past the post, awaiting the final deflection. Or it trickled tantalisingly towards the goal line, to get a last minute clearance. Short corners were good but not as slick as in practise and chance after chance went begging.
Finally on 20 mins Ollie P broke the deadlock and put the fives into a well deserved lead.
But it was short lived.
On a rare excursion into our D Folkestone were awarded a short corner and duly buried it. 1-1.
Half time

The second half followed the same pattern. The fives were outstanding. Calmly going about business and piling on relentless pressure.
We ended up 2 -1 victors in one of our best performances of the season and quite honestly a score of 8 -1 would have been more representative of the game.

It was also a game of firsts.
The fives went into the game first in the league.
They finished the game first in the league.
They managed to get their first card of the league season !!! [that honour going to yours truly sgt Whitney for a stick tackle - very debatable]
We also were awarded our first P flick of the season - and sgt Whitney the flick taker was subbed off at this time. So what to do. He did as any captain would do. He nominated the youngest player in the side, complete with his dad on the sidelines!! No pressure there then !! But young Harry was super keen to give it a go. He went for the old "bounce it off the goalies shoulder ploy" and secured the points!!

We must also thank our ever growing band of supporters, who now number 3. Mary, Matt and Dog !!!!

I must also say what a pleasure it is to lead this bunch of guys every week. Not only is the hockey fantastic but the way that they conduct themselves is awesome. Folkestone had nothing but good things to say about us after the game such as
"You are by far the strongest team we have played against"
"It was an absolute pleasure to play in such a good game against you guys"

you see guys.
"You are what you think, - WINNERS" !!!!!!!!!!!!
