They Think Its All Over............

The alternative tagline for this game was "The Good The Bad And The Ugly"
But we will not dwell on that.
In true "Fives Style" we will gloss over the bad feeling in the game and concentrate only on the positives and the end result
CHAMPIONS OF DIVISION 2 !!!!!!

In a truly tough game, both physically and mentally, BOE started shakily. Maybe the occasion had got to them. Whatever the reason the boys soon found themselves trailing by a goal. But as always this season heads did not drop, we settled into some better hockey, and just rewards came as Dan Bayliss slotted beautifully home on the reverse stick. Shortly before the break Stu found himself one on one with the keeper and swiftly he danced round him, avoiding the intentional body check and slotting home. 2-1 up and the title was in sight.

After the break the game became harder to play as it deteriorated as a verbal attack on BOE. And how did we respond. With a goal of sheer class!! With two switches across the field the ball fell to young Ainley. With the subs shouting to sling it up the line to meet Stu's run he duly obliged, passing the ball on the diagonal to Adam. Not only did young Ainley fool the BOE subs, he completely fooled Gore Court and they were left standing. 2 passes later and Stu was free again and slotted past the keeper. Surely it was ours.

GC kept pressing and Damo was required to make an outstanding save from a short corner to keep them from closing the gap.
And so the game ended with three cheers being awarded to Blackheath second eleven !! At the time that comment upset me, but now, its just another positive. If that is how far our hockey has progressed at BOE that we are classed as second eleven players then thank you very much, I'll accept that compliment!!!!

So there it is. BOE fives become champions of division 2 with 2 games to go and still the chance of an unbeaten season. That is exceptional. Thanks again to all of you in the squad who have been part of this and made it happen. It has been unbelievable and an absolute joy to be part of. Lets finish the season in style

Thanks to mark for keeping some form of order in the game and actually being very lenient with the cards, which probably helped maintain order. They could easily have had 4 men on the bench at one time!!

Apologies for this report being tame and shorter than normal. You see I have a glass of Bolinger and some caviar on the go and I need to enjoy them in the sumptuous surroundings of my big house in South London !! Cos that is where we all live don't you know!!
