"Its my Birthday and I'll Ump if i want to"

With last season's final encouter with GC still tasting bitter in their mouths, the fives were psyching themselves up all week. Then came the news that GC 4's had pulled out against the heathens, and foul play could be smelt. But those worries were unfounded, as GC turned up with a youthful side and a gentleman captain, and gave a good account for themselves, which was surely difficult at times with the onslaught from the fives. The passion is alwys apparent in the fives, but this season the end product has not quite been achieved. But it happened today.

The first half began with speed and passion, but suddenly, whack. Man down. Medic !!! Again !!! Leverton !!!! Attention seeking I call it !!! The sarge was still in his trackie on the sidelines collecting the practice balls!! Jeepers. So we were off again. Carney's return showed him at his best, spreading the ball across the back, swopping channels, no sign of rust at all, maybe just a little mucus !! Young Elliot in his new role as central attacking midfielder shone, twisting and turning the opposition inside out. Literally. I'm sure I saw intestines at one point !! Speed, energy and fitness showed, and the fives started to press their dominance.
Short corner 1.
Huddle.
James inject and its coming back to you.
He does, it does, he's clear, but misses. Damn.
Short corner 2.
James inject and its coming back to you.
He does, it doesnt !! Mellow Moore hogs it, but fair play, dodges the runner and buries it. Top man 1-0.

GC do not lay down however and mount an immediate counter attack gaining a short corner.
It's injected
Stopped Cleanly
The runners quick
But not quick enough
The shot is true and hard
Time slows.............
Stu Mac has a stick of steel
Goaline stop.
Game changer !!!!!

So half time comes and the fives are 1-0 up but far superior.
Then it happened.
It must have been a special day in the Mayan calendar.
The planets aligned
Magpies only flew in pairs
Four leafed clovers sprang from the astroturf
7's fell in line on slot machines the world over
And the Fives played hockey..............sublimly!!!
GC had absolutely no answer to the fire and the passion. The skill was awesome. Greed, not a chance. Goal no 2 was a masterpiece of passing and one twos ending with young Elliot turning 2 men inside out at the top of the D. Now at this point the youthful brain would shout SHOOT, SHOOT, but today this youthful brain came of age, and instead slipped the ball to Mellow who waited for the goalie to go to ground before flicking gently over him for no 2.
Shortly followed a P flick. Cooly converted by young Elliot, along with a post match comment to his captain along the lines of "showed you how to do it !!!" - Dropped !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But we didnt have it all our own way. GC kept coming at us but Morton in goal had very little to do, as at the back was the Man of Steel - Stu Mac. Invincible. Impenetrable. Unbreachable. and lots more words ending in ble !!!! What a performance and deserved man of the match, just pipping young Elliot.
But we only had 3. We were not finished.
Ssshhhhh
He's here
The Horsewhisperer.
A man whos name cannot be pronounced, or spelt
Stu Horsborwhispererbouroughffflllllbhfhfbehbuabwhfbiawufe !!!
Anyway, he bags another 2 and we end the day 5-0 winners.

Thanks to GC for being worthy opponents
Thanks to Karen for doing a great job yet again
And a final thanks to Rhys. Celebrating his birthday in the fine drizzle and umpiring serenly for the mere cost of a Peroni. Happy Birthday mate

Well Done Fives that was magnificent. And a special mention again to our young guns, Josh, James and Ross who continue each week to grow and develop and make more and more of an impact in our team. Keep it up boys.
