SEVENOAKS 1 - BEHC 2

The team were raring to go for the last pre-season game before the start of the league. The aim was to secure a win and sure enough the Ladies 1’s came away with their heads held high beating Sevenoaks 1 – 2!

As the team warmed up they felt clammy from the humidity in the air. Luckily the weather started to cool as the match got underway but unfortunately it finished in a downpour – welcome back to hockey!

The team all worked hard, particularly the ‘fidget spinners’ in midfield. This was reflected in Jilly securing MoM. Our defence remained strong and confidently transferred the ball across the pitch. The forwards were also hungry for goals with Jenna opening the scoring in the first half and Sue putting away another in the second half, both were from open play.

The Sevenoaks goal was scored from a short corner and was like pin ball as the ball deflected off both Kate and Jenny before going into the back of the net. The lovely new Sevenoaks pitch was also testing at times for BEHC as it proved more bouncy than usual.

There were a few amusing moments… Jenna was 20 minutes late after missing the A21 turn off – this error meant she won DoD or as it’s now known the Egg On Your Face Award (EOF). There was a sigh of relief by the team as the new outfit was revealed, thankfully there was no shellfish mask in sight, just a fried egg costume instead which Jenna managed to style out well!

Other instances include Bergen suddenly getting excited and jumping all over Lucy in the changing rooms during the team talk when he realised she was there (#puppylove). Jenny did a big swing and miss in the D right across an oppositions stick when trying to clear the ball in the air. And our lovely new Vice Captain Kate passionately shouting in the loudest voice ‘OUT’ in case the umpire was in any doubt the ball had crossed the backline in a moment of pressure from Sevenoaks.

Last but by no means least; this match report wouldn’t be complete without congratulating Rob Hughes on passing his L1 Umpires Award. Great officiating Rob!

Bring on another win next week ladies!!
