A last minute penalty corner equaliser from Gravesend denies the 1s another victory but they remain undefeated.

Gravesend 2 - 2 Blackheath

MoM: Sian
DoD: Dave

On a grey and drizzly afternoon Blackheath started very brightly. Lots of early possession was finished off nicely by Vicky with a trademark reverse stick strike into the backboard after 5 minutes. 1st shot 1st goal.

With acres of space in the middle, Jenny marshalled the midfield well - everyone playing their part to maintain possession, working together and hunting in packs. Chances were created but not quite taken by Blackheath - the ball scooting past the posts on numerous occasions from open play and shorts.

Things went a bit pear-shaped in the defensive D against the run of play and Gravesend leveled the score about halfway through the first half with a strong strike. A couple of substitutions across the frontline and a fine linking move from Jilly to Netty to a calm and collected Alina made it 2-1, she was never going to miss!

Second half, and now running down hill (!), Blackheath again held most of the possession. A more fired up Gravesend side tried to break through with long balls and quick breaks but the Blackheath defense was strong. A couple of excellent tracking runs and precision tackles from Sian earned her MoM and denied Gravesend from adding to their tally. Frustration crept into the Gravesend game with a few tempers fraying, and after a talking too from the men in green things settled down again and play intensified.

The last 10 minutes were mainly Blackheath's. Plenty of composure was shown with passes around the team, building towards the D, but the finish just alluded us. A Gravesend short corner with the last play of the game meant it ended 2-2. A shame considering the effort put in by all but Blackheath still top the table, 4 points clear, and undefeated in 10 matches.
