Building the momentum

Building on the momentum from last week, the ladies 1s arrived at college meadow ready to get some points on the board. Despite some last minute rearrangements of the teamsheet made necessary by illnesses and injuries hitting the squad this week, a team of 12.5 arrived in the changing rooms ready for some tactics from Jules and assistant coach Freya.

Tactics were 1 -Cross it, 2 - shoot it, and 3- just get the nearest girl to run to jules when you have penalty corners. The team was pumped and rushed so fast out the changing rooms that nobody had time to remember the balls which fortunately were soon collected just in time.

With a strong warmup underway and assistant coach Freya reminding the team how to respond to long corners, the 1s set up for pushback with their eyes on the prize at this local derby.

The team set out on a mission and started with strong intensity… within minutes there was a penalty corner and Stan legged it over to jules who was overjoyed that someone had remembered his team talk. Tactic 3 tick. A near miss but an aggressive shot from Stan proved threatening. Next more drives from the midfield and some excellent play upfront led to a fabulous goal from Rachel crossing it over the line like it was a piece of cake. Tactic 2 tick.

BBHC were not happy. The local derby was running away from them. They scored a quick equaliser bringing the score to 1-1. Blackheath decided this wouldn’t do. Another PC was won and this time Stan was ready and knew exactly where to deposit the ball, a strong hit straight for the goal and BANG 2-1 to Blackheath.

Blackheath held the run of attacking play and quite literally ran circles round BBHC for most of the second half. Despite some excellent drives and a barrage of shots at the BBHC goal, the conversion was not at first forthcoming. Finally the girls got their 3rd goal from lovely play by Amelia who finished it from a super cross in. Tactic 1 tick.

Vicky almost lost a finger, Amelia almost lost a hand and Annie hit herself in the head but fortunately the girls held strong and with a little help from some lemsip managed to win 3-1 and even hit ALL 3 tactics. It’s looking like BEHC ladies 1s fortunes may be on the turn!

POM Super-sub Lotta for being turbocharged by lemsip
DOD Annie for hitting herself in the face with the ball
