BEHC 1 (3-1) Sevenoaks 3

With a youthful looking side, Blackheath were looking to turn around an unfortunate run of form that had persisted into 2024. We welcomed local rivals Sevenoaks to College Meadows on a chilly but dry day. Maybe it was the hypothermia that briefly confused Evie as to which side of the pitch was the left but this was quickly resolved. Sevenoaks started strongly but Blackheath had a great break with Flick passing to our new superstar striker Vicki B who slotted the ball home. 1-0! Amelia managed to stay on her feet for most of this game, unlike Amelie who lost her stick at one point and tried out a knee slide off the pitch. Undaunted, she continued to tackle and nick the ball off the opposition. Sally did sterling work as centre back. Annie made a great pass to Flick who set Amelia up for a great goal slotted in at the left post. Annie got some extra celebration time on the sideline due to a green card as the umpire did not appreciate her shave tackles. Sarah MB kept the opposition (and Blackheath) guessing with a stick/ foot combo at the top of the D but Blackheath rode out the pressure. Vicky P earned herself a green card for a vigorous tackle with an elbow Unfortunately Sevenoaks managed to pull one back at a short corner despite some great defensive work. At half time Blackheath led 2-1.

The second half was a tense affair with great play from both teams. There were several chances for Blackheath but we could not get that ball in the back of the net. More top defending from Captain Sally - only one 'don't panic' backline episode which the team dealt with calmly. Blackheath calmed the nerves with a third goal. Amelie gave a lovely ball to Annie who with one touch found Vicky B who in turn used her one touch to find the backboard. Annie rounded off the game and confirmed her DOD with a yellow card but Blackheath are back to winning ways! Player of the match - Vicki B for two great goals and hard work up front.
