BEHC 1’s (0-1) Ashford

Blackheath W1 were keen to turn the tables on Ashford having lost 1-2 in their away game. On home turf and on the back of some good form they thought they would have the edge.
Unfortunately Ashford had other thoughts and were strong & quick to the ball from the outset. Blackheath soaked up the pressure but couldn’t seem to string many passes together on the counter attack & preferred to dribble into Ashford’s open sticks. A break from Ashford caught Blackheath momentarily off guard and a ball into the D was deflected into goal. 0-1 to Ashford. Having only a squad of 12 with half of those either ill or carrying an injury was tough work..
Edd stepped up to take the half time team talk whilst Jules was away with the M1s and with his wise words ringing in their ears Blackheath started the second half with a lot more fire in their bellies. 7 short corners followed by endless attack down the right flank, 2 disallowed goals (the whistle had blown a nano second before), Vicky P arguing with the oppo, Jilly taking out players, Felicity being taken out herself, captains being talked to by the umpires as Ashford tried to cope with Blackheath’s dominance but still Blackheath could not get on the scoreboard and the game disappointingly finished 0-1. Highlight of the day was seeing Edd fall over the kit bags in the clubhouse…
