50 games for the coach too!

Final score: 0 - 2 (loss)
MoM: Sarah Marsters-Bright for some fantastic saves!
DoD: Jen for off the pitch antics involving a tambourine.

The L1's travelled to Canterbury for their first away match of the season. Short sharp passes were the order of the day and once settled the triangles started to come together particularly between Ceri, George and Biggsy on the right and Sian, Banksy and Sally on the left.

The play was pretty evenly matched. Vicky, Jenna and Rachel linked together well upfront and Blackheath secured a couple of short and long corners which were close to being put away. Sarah MB was controlling her D extremely well, coming out and clearing the ball with some great kicks. Then Canterbury had a spate of short corners and Blackheath had our first taste of the breaking early rule, not just losing Banksy but Ceri as well. However we managed to keep Canterbury at bay! Then with a few minutes to go of the first half Canterbury got another short corner which they converted into a goal, although it was lucky to cross the line as Sian almost got her stick to it!

Unfortunately birthday girl Netty had to retire for the game as her hamstring just wasn't playing ball, however she gave some great support from the sideline along with some of the L3's (thanks to those who came!).

The team had fire in their bellies to claw some goals back for the start of the second half. Jilly made some lovely one touch passes on the right and made some great runs off the ball. Kathryn made some solid tackles in defence and broke down Canterbury's play. Sarah MB continued to pull some great saves out of the bag getting her stick to an attempted lob (amazing!). Unfortunately though after a period of pressure Canterbury converted another goal. Skipper Jen came off with 5 mins to go after gaining a couple more bruises on her toes to add to the collection on her leg from her superb tambourine playing (ha ha!).

With 10 minutes to go Blackheath really stepped up their game. The pressure got turned onto Canterbury and Blackheath were unlucky to not convert another short corner. The game finished with Blackheath losing 2 - 0 however the determination and fight of the team was great. Bring on the return match at home!
