Ladies 1's gain young legs to hit a win.

Ladies 1's vs Ashford (A)

5 days to go and the team was looking bare for our trip down south to Ashford. They do say though, everything works out in the end and that it did!

The, now traditional, warm up of netball was needed to face the icy, harsh wind however this ended with a bump to a baby's head - whoops. DOD nominations had started.

Game time and Blackheath were hungry to get back a win and with new players communication was key. Lydia (bringing the average age of the team down by at a good 10 years) drove hard and fast on the right setting up some great attacks on goal from Biggsy and Lucy but is was Lydia who put away her first goal, on debut, for 1st XI.

Blackheath continued to put on the pressure and with great awareness on the pitch, Karen intercepted many of Ashford's attempts at long balls to clear their half.

We had to watch fast attacks from the oppo as they crawled a goal back to equalise keeping Jenny on her feet rather than her knees!

Down the left saw some fast runs from Lucy under great guidance from Jenna and there were some great switch balls played back. Fresh, young legs to match up with Biggsy proved to pay off as the forwards attacked hard with solid support from Vicky and George allowing a Biggsy goal to bang in.

Newby Shaunna found her feet quickly with some 'cracking' balls through to the frontline showing immense vision. Sian tried this out but achieved another DOD nomination for trickling a ball across goal into the path of an Ashford attacker! Vision 1 - Execution 0.

Blackheath continued with plenty of pressure and Jenna didn't let us down with a final goal secured. Blackheath Ladies 3 - 1 Ashford. (Ashford did beat us on teas though: sausage, chips and beans by far superior to soggy pasta and mince!)

MOM: Lydia
DOD: Sian

Back to winning ways, the team were buzzing especially with finishing the first half of the season of our new league ON TOP!

A full strength team out against Wapping this Saturday and then Ladies 1's pedal off into the Christmas break!
