The calm before storm Ciara.

The calm before storm Ciara.

On a fine and sunny Saturday the atmosphere has a feeling of impending drama, be that from the drop in atmospheric pressure or the upcoming game against Havering we can’t be sure. The ones arrived to find coach Jade negotiating high important trade calls so they decided to follow his lead and get down to business.

The first half was full of goals. Mostly from the opposition. They managed to get three past us somehow, thankfully we kept some skin in the game with a goal from Sue. It was a cleverly devised short corner that fooled the defence and keeper alike. We entered half time 3-1 down.

After some delicious jelly babies they decided to get back on it as they all knew the only way to make a sausage roll is to push it down the hill. We are awaiting the test results to confirm if the jelly babies were laced with magic because what happened in the second half no one was expecting...

The second half went like an episode of Eastenders, highs, lows but thankfully no unexpected explosions. The opposition attacked us hard and the defence were under pressure. So much pressure that Kate’s finger took a battering and an inability to put a ring on her finger. It was finally goal time for Blackheath. Firstly from a cross into the D and a fantastic deflection goal from Jenna. Our next came from a short corner and an epically placed cross from Jenna for a finish from Sally (or Hannah). Emma Hux thought it was time to show everyone how good she is at dancing and playing hockey in one go as spun circles around everyone whilst keeping the ball on the stick to win us a short corner. It was a flick from Hannie but alas she threw it straight at the keeper. Thankfully the rebound was picked up by Jenna and she once again sent in a fantastic cross that was quickly put in the back of the net by Hannah (or Sally) for us to take the lead.
Scoreline 4-3 (panic!)

Blackheath decided to batten down the hatches from the oncoming storm and protect our house. The opposition had a few near misses but thankfully for our team we had superstar Sarah to save the day, again and again and again.

The final whistle went and we were able to celebrate with some well earned cake. All in all our performance can be described inspirational and a comeback so great it rivalled that of Take That. It was also nice to learn some new words not heard before in Kent and rules of hockey... although Jade has confirmed they aren’t taking effect in future games.

M.O.M - Hannie for being good at hockey
D.O.D - Charlie for a green card from a stick tackle
