Dennis the Menace

Dennis wasn’t the only one wreaking havoc this weekend as the Blackheath Ladies ventured North of the River to Chigwell.

The BEHC Match Day forecast warned of gale force winds, sideways rain and a fair-to moderate-chance of goals.

Wayward Sat Nav directions attempted to bring an area of low pressure from the outset, sending some of the team on a scenic detour of the M11. The winds fortunately changed direction and carried Captain,Sue Moore, pitch side with enough time to kit up and rally her troops before the starting whistle.

Despite the forecast it was a relatively calm opening few minutes, with the team composed and in control of the game, building
play and proving dangerous on both sides of the pitch; the Brown sisters dominating the flanks with creative and attacking play.

Within 8 mins, the team slotted home goal number one with a beautifully placed, HB special, drag flick off a short corner.

The momentum carried and goals number two and three quickly followed courtesy of Caitlin and Jilly.

An Amber storm warning was published.

Possession was maintained and the Ladies controlled the game but were unable to seize any further opportunities as they stepped into half time relatively comfortable at 3-0 up.

BEHC Ladies Coach, Jade Bloomfield, look set to revise the forecast and warned of an area of high pressure in the oppositions 23 with a torrential downpour set for the second half.

The defences of Crostyx weren’t strong enough to hold back the unrelenting advances made by the BEHC Ladies. Some slick skills from Emma down the right wing and great pivotal play from Sally and Jilly allowed BEHC to hammer home goal after goal. Their own defensive line helped build play from the back, playing high with some great transfers around allowing the midfield and forwards to storm the oppositions end with gusts of play.

Captain, Sue Moore, struck 4 minutes into the second half and followed up with a second a mere 4 minutes later. Goals 4 and 5 were in the bag. Hurricane HB continued to inject missiles into the oppositions D allowing the team to press high and seize opportunity after opportunity. Jenna struck at 44, 53 and 60 minutes unleashing a downpour on the Crostyx defence gaining her the first hatrick of the day. With the score line definitively in our favour, the eye of the storm, GK Sarah MB, retired early to allow an attacking 11 to advance.

The team were unrelenting with Jilly stepping in to bring the scoreline to 9-0. Kathryn and Meghan ensured that the advances of Crostyx were localised and the unmanned goal safely protected. Deflections practice certainly paid off as Sue Moore helped the ball to glide beautiful into the back of the net and securing a 10-0 score line shortly before the final whistle.

Outlook: Showers and winds are expected to ease into next weekend as the Ladies 1 take an extended break to dry off!

MoM: Jenna for superb play and her hatrick
DoD: Sue for her tardy arrival
