CAKE CRUSADE SPELLS VICTORY FOR THE LADIES 2nd XI

Blackheath Ladies 2nd X1 V BBHC

Bugs were rife in the Blackheath camp but all soldiered onto the pitch, symptoms ignored for the game in hand. Following on from Richard’s plan of play, Blackheath did a lot of this:

…confusing or dazzling BBHC but enabling Beth to strike at goal, firing a high shot at point-blank, ably assisted over the line by Sue. As you can see Blackheath’s fit and furious defence worked hard as BBHC did what we were doing but without Blackheath’s amazing goalie Becs who kept out quite a few dead certs. And was awarded player of the match.
The game was however hampered by two side-line characters who really should go to Specsavers, bless.

It was proving difficult for Blackheath to score again and BBHC looked certain to do just that, but Hayley, Georgina, Harriet and Annette, Max, Helen, Beth, Nat…… worked doggedly. The reward came in the last few minutes when Nat picked up a great ball, tonked it in from the left to an awaiting Gina who:

..sized up the empty goal, savoured the moment, reminded herself she was on the right and not the left, then stroked the ball in for Blackheath’s second goal.
There was muted joy after final whistle as these sadly fugitive moments of victory re-registered in players, reminding them of how it will be and how important is Karen's cake:
