It wasn’t the smell of chestnuts roasting on an open fire but the scorching of Acorns as they got too close to the pyrotechnic display that was Blackheath.

Even bystanders were at risk from the major blasts and multi-shot ground rockets spewing in all directions. Despite a slow-burner start, a sparkling show of flare and fountains of focus showered across the terrain, ignited by Captain Nat and her explosive real-time assessments during play.

There were a few dud cracklers which culminated in a score to Acorns, but only once as Blackheath’s Pyrotechnic stars moved as one, allowing Sue and Bigsy to each score two jaw-dropping goals, igniting the gunpowder for an ooh ahhhh finale.
