UNBEATEN FOLKESTONE...BEATEN

With only 11 players able to make the match they knew it would take a tremendous team effort to hold off top of the table Folkestone who were unbeaten and had only conceded 4 goals this season. By midway through the 1st half though it was 5 goals after Nat’s quickly taken free hit and run down the pitch was finished expertly by Kate.

A somewhat surprised Folkestone tried to up their game but they could not find a way through and hardly registered a shot on goal. After the break it was more of the same and again Blackheath held firm with the defence and midfield battling for every ball. Up front the forwards continued to cause problems as they ran into space and attacked with speed.

As the 2nd half wore on, Folkestone threw more and more players forward in the hope of rescuing a point from the game. Blackheath were not going to let go of their lead and despite tired legs everyone was defending as though lives depended on the result.
As the longest last 3 minutes in history ticked down the home side thought they’d equalised but the ball pinged back off the post and was thumped out of play. Finally the end of the game came and Blackheath had hung on for a thoroughly deserved 3 points. Get in there!

This was a true team performance so no man of the match this week but Helen made a wonderful minion after her numerous “Bambi on ice” demonstrations during the game.
