Well it was with some sadness that Blackheath said goodbye to their star supporter Nial who has consistently pitched up at their games, 6 weeks straight and who now returns to Jamaica.
He told the team post match that meeting up with sis Annette, her hockey buddies and experiencing their hockey highs and hockey lows was a highlight of his 6 week sabbatical.
So we gave him a final display of hockey highs and lows which should keep him going until next year, at least. A 5-1 match of bottle, determination, dodgy cohesion at times, gifting to the oppo at times, good stuff, naff stuff, but never a dull moment.
We gifted six goals to Nial, to take home in his mind’s eye, five may have belonged to Gillingham but a well-executed move to Beth resulted in an overdue goal which spread transient warmth through the team and primed Nial for the heat he is returning to, a result of sorts.
So farewell Nial, we’ll look after your sister until your return and work on higher highs for next time.
Manly Minion of the Match went to Harriet for great work on the pitch and discreet use of the seat of easement off the pitch.
