Canterbury (1-1) BEHC L2

T'was the last game before Christmas, when all thro’ the team,
Players were stirring and yearning for a win;
Our sticks and bags were unloaded with care,
In the hopes that Saint Hockeylass soon would be there;
The BEHC players nestled in for a teamtalk,
While visions of sweet goals danced in their heads.

Away to Canterbury, the game started in a flash,
The team tore open the playing shutters and threw up the hockey sash.
The sun in our eyes on the soft bouncy pitch,
Gave lustre and shine to the game as the rain had finally stopped.
Working hard from defence, passing in triangles up the pitch,
The team tried to place the ball in the back of the net.

Canterbury stepped up their attack,
No fear, Zoe kept the goal clear!
The team pushed again, and call’d each other by name:
“Now Sian, now Flick, now Laura and Alice,
On Nicole, on Sue, on Emma and Beth;
Now dash away! dash away! dash away all.”

Then in a twinkling the umpire blew for half time,
The girls went away and listened to Captain Maddy, ready to go again for part two;
As we drew up our heads and turned around we were caught on a quick break,
Down the pitch Canterbury came with a bound;
Jen put pressure on the cross, which became a shot,
She deflected the ball top right, TFC was hers alright!

The team were 1 – 0 down, but were not ready to be beat!
So they stepped up once again and prayed for Saint Hockeylass to appear.
Marianna, Hannah, Maddy and Jen played the ball from the back,
And the prancing of the midfield meant we were back on the attack.
With a little drive so lively and quick the forwards sprang into action,
And in a wink of an eye Beth scored a much deserved goal!
