It was a frosty Saturday morning when BEHC W2’s travelled to Sittingbourne. The frost was unexpected and it caught both teams by surprise, at one point it looked like the game could be off. With the Sun rising in the sky, weather hotting up and leaf blowers at the ready, the ice melted away and the pitch was deemed safe. BEHC W2’s knew the pressure would be high as both teams were fighting for the all-important points.
BEHC W2’s got off to a good start, holding possession of the ball and driving up the wing. Laura and Alice made quick work to push the ball into the Sittingbourne half.
After some high intensity from the team, BEHC W2’s was awarded a couple of short corners. However, none of the hits met the mark. The team kept battling it out, with Marianna, Jen and Jess holding the back line and averting any opportunities for the opposition. It was 0-0 at half time.
Sittingbourne stepped it up in the second half and came out fighting for the win. After a couple of questionable short corners awarded, they managed to convert one for a goal. Score 1-0.
The pressure intensified, Sian and Sue worked down the middle of the pitch to put pressure back on Sittingbourne. Shyla made some great runs into the D and unfortunately slipped and hurt her ankle. After this, the pressure reached a boiling point and Maddy tried to keep her cool… After what looked like a dangerous altercation with Jen and the opposition BEHC W2’s were awarded the ball and tried to break down the Sittingbourne defence.
Unfortunately, Sittingbourne managed to overturn the ball and caught us on a break, resulting in them going 2-0 up.
With not much time left on the clock BEHC W2’s kept going until the final whistle but could not convert an opportunity.
Final score 0-2 to Sittingbourne.
