There have been many sightings of female phantoms in Tunbridge Wells over the years; The Pantiles, Calverley Road and Hawkenbury, not far from where Blackheath and T. Wells played today’s match. Come the shoulder of St Valentine’s Day, one phantom (we shall call Karen) is said to start an agonising trudge across fields and tracks, looking for love. As the day nears, Karen appears to more people, she becomes more frantic, a screaming banshee by St Valentine’s night. Blackheath may have encountered this phantom at a romantic venue, outside the toilets at the Recreational Ground but no matter, the mood was charged, the hose mismatched, the breeches back to front and her stare so, so vacant. Legend has it that those who view her are quite affected, at least seventy minutes go awry. This may explain how T.Wells managed to defeat Blackheath 3-1, despite Karen literally putting a gutsy goal over the line, Hannah playing fantastically in defence, Becc’s game ending in extreme pain and Nat’s back eventually & painfully resisting motion.
Player of the Match went to Hannah for said brilliant play, much under duress.
The ‘Thanks for Coming’ award went to Yanoulla, not Karen, for raising hope in the forwards then dashing it so cheaply and for looking like the Recreational Ground phantom.
