Blackheath Ladies 2's V Brom Becc’s

As Spring springs into gear and Snow Drops drop and decompose, enriching soil anew, so the season that was Blackheath’s for the taking mimic’s Mother Nature.
Chief amongst the Snow Drops was Nat, whose unerring dedication was like compost, allowing the team to thrive despite deficiency issues such as injury, illness, IQ and Ibuprofen. For now, is the season for her to shed her captaincy in favour of unfettered hockey after a six-year tenancy. During which much composting was required along the way and at times of anxiety, doubt and woe, there was Nat knee deep in the stuff, spreading muck hither and thither in order to support her wilting flora. There is no doubt that Rob’s compost (and Ders) will nourish us all next season, but Nat’s rich loam will linger long in our hearts.
The final match was in need of said compost as BB’s turned into an equal force after a slow start. They went up two goals, much to Blackheath’s astonishment, but with a full crowd to shame and berate Blackheath, the girls went into rescue mode with dogged defensive play by all and some amazing crosses from Karen on the right which culminated in a solid goal from Robyn and a Top Scorer winning goal from Gina, courtesy of joint winner Karen. Great work Karen, loved the sacrifice.
So the Blackheath Spring did not result in promotion this season but has put down strong roots for the next when Karen will reclaim Olaf’s successor, Kate P will Spring from Most Improved Player into an amazing swan and the 'Howells' winning captains and coaches player of the season. Karen was voted by the Team as Player of the Year and decidedly deserved it. Well done.
