Blackheath Ladies Hockey 2nd X1 V Tunbridge Wells
The omen was good. A four-legged hound bounded onto the pitch and suddenly Blackheath were off like foxes.
Many lovely passes were made, one finding Gina in the circle who laid a pass for a sprinting Jenna, who shimmied around TW to score a beauty.
TW responded with an equalizer and heads went down, but the hound whimpered from beyond the fencing and Blackheath were off again. Many, many effective runs were made by Kat, Jenna and Gina but none were as productive as Max’s superbly timed hit to Sandra, who calmly scored Blackheath’s second and winning goal.
The backs were not shy in coming forward with Annette patrolling the goal area, Daphne pouncing on marauders and Georgina and Harriet tonking balls out to the awaiting forwards.
All defense players dug deep and were complemented by the brilliant goalie in Clare who kept out what the defense could not.
Special mention to Nat for superb captaincy in a difficult week, whose stress management tools included the provision of a Delia-esque post-match tea of sandwiches made with myriad fillings, succulent sausage rolls, feather-light carrot cake AND devilishly moist chocolate cake.
Blackheath was very willing and grateful to aid in her therapy being victorious in appetite as well as the match.
