Blown Away

It was a fine Saturday morning. The wind really blew us away but the small glimmer of sunshine meant the 2s had the perfect conditions for a fighting game. A fierce warm up on the netball courts certainly got the team psyched up to face the mighty Old Williamsonians, who had previously beaten us 3-2 and had smashed Jens face up in the process. This time we were ready. Ready to face the storm head on. Nothing was going to get in our way.

It was a tough first half. Tensions were rising and so was the aggression from the opposition. It felt like we were playing rugby half the time with the amount of contact that was going on. However, we finished the first half with spirits high and with positivity flying in all directions as we knew this was our game. We were the stronger team and had majority of the possession. It was as simple as getting the ball in the goal that would secure us the win. You’re thinking, easy right? However the opposition defence was attacking like the Great Wall of China making it exceptionally difficult. So after an exciting and tense first half, it ended 0-0.

The second half begun. From the start whistle the 2s were on form. Making hard tackles, fighting for the ball and doing some pretty awesome passing. The grit and determination shone through. We applied pressure and pushed ourselves up to break through the wall!! Finally a ball was struck from outside the D and Emma was perfectly placed in front of the goal to get us a deflection. The winning goal. A fantastic moment. We were in the lead, 1-0! All we had to do now was stop the opposition from scoring to make it a draw, it was certainly very tense. However we held our game and secured the 3 points for the week!

Player of the match was awarded to Emma for her excellent deflection skills and for making fantastic runs. Thanks for coming was awarded to Penny who thought she was more of a rugby player than a hockey player on the pitch this week!
