An intense match finishing with a win and beating the top team

It was a late afternoon match. The other Blackheath teams had already had their matches and we were up against the top team in the league so far. They had not yet lost a match so the pressure was on! But we had a game plan. With 3 subs on the bench, we made sure that the midfield legs would never be tired.

We had a solid defence with Annette in goal, sisters Sandra and Jakki on either side and Sophie as the sweeper. They stood strong and cleared those balls time and time again. No rest for these girls!

In midfield we had Carmel, Nic and Sarah rotating as centre midfield whilst myself, JoJo and Beth rotated on the wings. I think collectively we ran a marathon for this game!

Up front we had Tania, Sue, Lorraine and Abbi making sure they posted up and gave the opposition a run for their money.

Initially the game was a little quiet but after a few close calls it didn't take long for us to get our head in the game. Defence picked up and cleared that D time and time again. At half time the score was 0-0 and we had some very helpful advise from the ladies first team who came down to support.

Going into the second half we were awarded a short corner. What looked like a bit of a fluff up proved to be the worlds most epic dummy! It looked like Sarah totally missed the ball from the injection but Sue was there to back up, short pass to Sarah who smacked it into the goal! BOOM!!

The rest of the game flowed and the whole team used the wingers and played into the oppositions half. The last 10 minutes were tense. The opposition were getting hungry for a goal and pressure shot up. Hearts pounding we fought back with everything we had. Maybe fought a little too hard as it resulted in a green card for JoJo for shoulder barging but when the sound of the final whistle blew, sticks flew up in the air with relief and I was bursting with pride.

I ask a lot from my team. I push them hard to the point of bursting but the results are showing. I'm so very proud of each and every one of them so thanks team for putting up with my persistent emails and barking on match days. It's tough love! Let's keep up the winning streak! x
