An intense game mirrored by an intense report.

Saturdays match against Holcobme 4’s was rather like the last book of the Hunger Games series, (*Potential Spoilers if you haven’t read the book*), a gruelling battle trying to penetrate the goal, also known as the capital, and just when you thought you’d finally done it and won the war – something very unpredictable happens….

At the start of the match we were confident, we had the numbers, dominated the play and got an early goal. Things started to get heated on the front line as we pushed up and up, closing in on our enemy for another shot. Short corners were awarded and the assaults became continuous – but alas we just couldn’t get through. Blackheath’s Mocking Jay and man of the match, Jojo, tirelessly lead the ball into the D but there were simply too many of them. Tempers frayed further and our very own Captain Socks, akin to that of the kind and considerate Peeta, was wounded by our adversaries. This gave us even more ammunition to strike, but as we moved closer and positioned ourselves into full attack, we became vulnerable and a stray “peacekeeper” breached our defence and got a lucky goal just before half time. The score was even.

In the second half Blackheath unleashed hell on the capital, and almost all of the play was in the rival D. We blocked off the ball’s escape into our territory and launched attack after attack on the goal. Surely it would happen soon and we wouldn’t have to endure this for much longer. Almost all of Holcobme’s army were now guarding the back board from our forward and midfielder’s raids, then suddenly an opportunity arrived. A touch on the ball from one of Blackheath’s feet was allowed by the umpire, “Play on” we cried and then just like Prim swooped in on President Snow’s house to finally end his regime, Nic took a shot and we heard that oh so sweet thud of the ball hitting wood at the back of the posts. “Hurray!” we cheered in jubilation, as we had finally done it and won this never-ending battle. But such is the ill-fated win of Katniss and her rebellion, something very unexpected came back at us to even the score – the goal was disallowed.

We tried to recover and re-group but whether it was the frustration, the fatigue or the sheer disbelief, our final attempts were in vain and similar to the conclusion of the Hunger Games story, in the end the whistle blew and no one was triumphant.
