Rounding off 2015 with yet another win!

Christmas is a coming and the goose is getting fat…..but what the Blackheath 3s put on the menu could not have been predicted. Tasty lobster, sweet fairy cake and ham…strings, all served up at a pace that would have taken even Desmond by storm.
Our first game of the season was a 5-0 battering from Burnt Ash (BA) so we had a point to prove. Arriving at the pitch, to high winds and threatening rain, three wins in a row gave the team a confident start and the reward of an early goal. Not long after, BA scored in a rare foray up to our circle. The back line of Sandra (GK), Sandy, Noleen and Daphne had been instructed to belt the ball hard up the field in the first ten minutes, which worked well as the halves took the initiative and our attacking field paid off.
The forward line was a sight and sound to be beheld – not quite angelic voices, with some great calling, tight passing and some well-rehearsed manoeuvres in the circle, taking us to a 4-2 lead at half time. The second BA goal, a splendid attempt by Daphne to pluck the ball out of the air as it lofted towards the goal, was deflected magnificently in to the back of our own net. A well-deserved DOTD in an otherwise decent, attacking game for her. (Why d’you think I asked to write the match report!)
Thankfully there were no other such turkeys and Carmel, MOTM, claimed a Christmas cracker of a hat-trick this week. Our very own wise man, Coach Mirza, kept our heads cool at half time as BA were bound to come out fighting; it was they who now had the point to prove. The momentum stayed with Blackheath, who certainly hadn’t cooked their goose and were as hungry as ever – fighting for and enjoying another two goals in the second half, with Sue, Nicky and Sarah honours even at one goal each. Yes, that’s a 6-2 win!
It was a real team effort and special mention should go to Jo Jo, injured during the warm up, who ran like the wind all game. She was a close second for DOTD, running up the right wing and forgetting to turn left at the circle, as she ran off the back line in her enthusiasm. Midfield, Sarah had a belter of a game, rewarded with an awesome goal in the last three minutes. The defence didn’t concede a single short corner all game – surely a first.
In her matching luminous green outfit and trainers, surely Annette should have a design award and many thanks for keeping the game flowing with her excellent umpiring.
We finish the first half of the season third in the league with 21 points. 1 point behind Folkestone and 9 behind top of the Christmas table Brom Beccs. HAPPY CHRISTMAS!
