HAPPY 3's!

Blackheath 1 – Bexleyheath 0

With a string of losses under our belt, Blackheath 3s turned up for the game, as always, excited for the chance to play some good hockey, have a laugh with each other and to enjoy the day.

With nothing left to lose in the season, and some jokes that were accidently taken seriously, the set up was mixed up a bit with people playing outside their normal positions when the whistle sounded for the game to start.

Bexleyheath put up a good fight and it was a close game with both sides playing hard and wanting the win. Blackheath played well throughout the game, making good strong passes that moved the ball swiftly up the pitch, causing spectators on the side to wonder why we had been unlucky in past games.

Defence remained strong throughout, making great plays to the midfielders who took to their heels and ran with the ball on a number of occasions making for the attacking half.

Those playing upfront did a sterling job of getting into all the right places and it was moves like this that created the long awaited for moment.

From a fantastic strong hit by Marion, playing much higher than her normal defensive position, the ball streamed towards the post where Tilly was perfectly positioned to tap it in to the back of the goal in a timely movement that seemed wonderfully effortless, the kind of goal that everyone wants to score, clean and choreographed.

Blackheath held on to this lead and when the final whistle blew it was a picture of pure delight on the faces of the Blackheath players. After weeks of playing well and coming second, we finally came first. Unfortunately there was no champagne.

A well deserved win for Blackheath, and a well deserved (joint) Man of the Match for Tilly and Emma.
