Veterans Kent Cup Blackheath &OE's HC.
At College Meadow Sunday 8th February v Ashford
Won 8-3
Scorers: Djavit (4), Couves (2), Brown, Green.
Another great performance by the heroes of past days plus one of today’s heroes making his debut in the ranks of the Veterans.
We started briskly and immediately had Ashford’s defence on the hop; inside 5 minutes Sam went on a mazy run and presented Browner with a gilt edged chance which he took with some pleasure. We continued to dominate the game playing good passing hockey and arrived at half-time 4 goals to the good.
Wise words from Derwyn at half time saw a repeat of the first-half’s dominance and we scored another 3 goals. Then for some obscure reason the game got scrappy, we forgot the Bailie wisdom and got bogged down, allowing Ashford to come back into the game and score 3 goals. Fortunately sanity returned and Sam popped in an eighth to conclude the affair.
There was much good hockey played by both teams despite the umpires’ efforts to confuse everyone.
