IN THE END THE LEGS HAD IT!

The most anticipated opener ended up with the 5s beating the Vets 4 - 1. However, it lived up to its billing, especially for the first 45 minutes.

The Vets had the worse start possible going one down to bizarre goal inside 5 minutes. The rest of the first half was fast and furious with neither side giving much away. At the end of the half the Vets deservedly equalised through a goal from Lee assisted by Richard.

The second half started as the first ended. Eventually the pressure from the 5s paid off with their second goal. Although the Vets kept trying to continue to fight back the older legs began to slow. The inevitable happened, the 5s scored twice more.

It was a competitive but good natured game. The Vets have much to feel optimistic about. Graham Green, Tim Walters and Steve Garth are very welcome additions to the squad. All we need is to get Andy Bulgin fit along with Pat and Jason, and get Phil Kinch, Steve Miller and the President back and we are going to a formidable force for the rest of the season.

Goodness knows, though, how we will achieve our ambition of ending the season above the 5s especially as the 5s aim to win the league!

Today's outstanding players were undoubtedly Lee, Mark and Ross with Lee edging it for MOM. The flowing game owed a lot to Martin and Edd's umpiring - thank you gentlemen.
