The highlight of the Vets 4-1 win over Old Bords was a perfectly executed goal by our President Mr Maltman. Playing uncharacteristically on the left wing but executing it by hovering at the edge of the D - a perfect pass was picked up by David on the volley and slotted in the back of the opposition 's net. There was no surprise that David would do anything else. With the skill and style he demonstrates every week in defence he put into practice in attack. Words like "master-class", "perfect" and "aplomb" were used to describe the goal later in the bar. For the President, he just shrugged and said "Like turning the clock back 50 Years".
While David's goal was the highlight it should not detract from another competitive and skilful performance by the squad overall in every area. Lee scored before Graham had even turned up for the game. Minutes after Graham came on he put away another goal. The half ended with Old Bords pulling back one goal. In reality after that they were rarely in the game. What they failed to realise was trying to play through the Vets defensive unit as opposed to playing around was futile. Ex President Mr Miller was indeed in danger of being accused of shameless showboating in the closing stages of the game!
Lee scored a second and along with David's goal the Vets triumphed 4-1 - again playing with a full Vets side and demonstrating commitment and tenacity.
Again thanks to both umpires especially our own Dan Moore. The game was very competitive and if the umpires had not kept everyone in line, the Vets kept their discipline there could have been sending offs.
MOM - Lee ( Tim only failed by voting for Lee!)
