One realises why the North Kent coast in winter has little going for it and Saturday proved once again it was not the weather for hanging around in. Indeed the Vets warm up was to stay in their cars with the heaters on as long as possible prior to the start!

Once the 'hardy' Vets took the beach-like, giant sandpit that is the Anchorians pitch within about 4 minutes, from a perfect pass Pat charged all the way through the oppositions half to slot a clinical shot passed their keeper. Apart from a couple of long pass breaks Gillingham caused the Vets little concern. All the pressure from the Vets resulted in a second goal from Simon to end the first half two goals up.

The highlights of the second half were a good goal from Chris Hall and a Gillingham goal against the run of play.

The game needed little involvement from the umpires. Mark Ainley dealt efficiently with one small altercation otherwise it was a very uncontroversial game.

The almost unanimous MOM was Richard Cleall who lead by example and controlled the game faultlessly from start to finish although he did claim some responsibility for Gillingham's goal.

There is one disturbing factor to report about the Vets last two games - Aidan broke his big toe last week and, newcomer, Stu Cooper ended this match with a crush fracture of the foot. We wish them well with their recoveries - being selfish it is just as well there is only one match to go this season. Hopefully there will be less footwork next season.
