A resounding victory for the U14 Dev Team will push them into a more challenging league after Christmas
BOEHC v Marden Russets – U14 Mercian Development League
BOEHC 10 – 1 Marden
A fine winters morning at the Colfes astro saw the U14s take on Marden Russets.
Coach Ravi set his team up with a 4- 5 -1 formation and within 30 seconds the reds were 1 – 0 up, a lightening break down the right flank and a well place shot from Karlo took the away team by surprise and set the tone for the game.
Straight from the restart the reds retained possession and moved the ball wide down the left, with some neat interplay between Ben and Will the resulting cross was finished by the lively Josh, 2 – 0 the reds.
Marden took the centre and pressed forward, they moved the ball left and Charlie Smith intercepted and gave a quick short pass to Will, who turned and moved through the centre of the midfield before finding a perfectly timed run from Josh who finished with a neat strike into the bottom right corner of the goal.
With the score at 3-0 Marden need to find a way back into the game, they launched an attack but the reds pressure on the ball made it hard going, a good long ball from the Marden centre back resulted in a short corner for the visitors, who scored with a well worked play, 3-1.
The comeback however was short lived as again the reds defended well all over the pitch preventing Marden any possession. Another interception from the reds allowing Ben to make it 4-1 going into the interval.
The second half began as the first finished with the reds high work rate starving the away team of the ball, Will Leverton and Lorcan combining well and finding Fergus who slid a fast ball forward, a beautiful pick from Josh a neat pass and Karlo made it 5. Marden to their great credit stuck at the task and continued to try and play their way back into the game but BOEs were just too strong.
As the clock ticked the Marden goal was constantly under threat so much so the reds changed to one at the back for a period of play this pressure resulted in two fine goals from Jamieson and second for the excellent Ben and a third for Karlo.
All in all a great performance and a great improvement from earlier matches, the team moved the ball much quicker than in previous games and were organised and focused for longer periods. If they are to continue this progress they need to keep the ball speed up and continue to work hard off the ball allowing the ball carrier more options and use the full width of the pitch.
Many thanks to Ravi for a well organised and motivated team.
