Under-12 girls side turned in an excellent performance

It was a case a so close but yet so far for the Falcons at Bromley High School on 14 January.
The Falcons finished third in the triangular which brought together teams from Tunbridge Wells and hosts Brombecks.
The Falcons were narrowly edged out by the favourites Brombecks A in the opening match 1-0.
They followed up with a convincing 2-0 victory over Tunbridge Wells’ elite side. Nina Bowles opened the scoring, skipping through the defence to finish neatly. Then Ria Bennett-Lee tore down the right hand side fed Nina who fired across for Isla Thomas to tap home.
Amelia Couper and Orla Wyatt held firm at the back with Mya Bowles, making her Falcons’ debut in goal rarely tested.
Next up was Tunbridge Wells’ B team, who were easily dispatched 2-0, Nina and Ria both scoring in the opening few minutes.
Confusion then reigned. On the adjoining pitch Brombecks A faced Tunbridge Wells A. The scorekeepers had initially indicated a 2-1 victory for the visitors, which would have opened up an opportunity for a tournament win if they could claim victory in their final match. But seconds before the bell went to start the final game, the umpires changed the result to a 2-2 tie, handing the tournament win to the hosts’ A team.
The bad luck seemed to infect the Falcons, who produced their most dominating performance of the day against Brombecks B, who had earlier been beaten by the Tigers. But chance after chance went by. Isla Oliver went close early on. Ria sent in cross after cross from the right. Nina and Isla Thomas also saw chances go begging, but nothing dropped. And the Falcons were caught on the counter to concede. And then as the clock run out, Brombecks added a second from only their second chance despite a desperate diving tackle from Amelia Couper.
The results, ultimately, may not have gone their way, but the performance from the team and the potential it showed promises much for the weeks, months and years ahead.
