Blackheath Women’s 2nd XI travelled to Folkestone ready for the challenge, and they certainly didn’t disappoint, coming away with a hard-fought victory!
Blackheath got off to the perfect start, scoring within the first five minutes. A short corner was slipped straight to the top of the D, where Orla unleashed a fantastic, powerful strike straight into the back of the goal. What a way to start!
Things soon got a little more eventful when Steeley produced a rather questionable tackle in the D, earning herself a yellow card and some well-deserved time on the sidelines to reflect on her choices!
At the back, Jen was pulling the strings with some excellent balls through defence, creating fantastic opportunities for the forward line. Not even taking a ball to the head could stop her from getting straight back to it and helping Blackheath maintain their lead — commitment at its finest!
Vicky Butler was an absolute workhorse across the pitch, putting in solid tackles, covering endless ground and creating chances in front of goal. Meanwhile, Rachel was gliding down the right-hand side like a gazelle, holding her position in midfield with confidence and keeping things ticking along nicely.
As the game progressed, Catherine decided to add a little extra drama with a late attempt at the crossbar challenge. Unfortunately, the crossbar had other ideas!
The second half saw Blackheath dig deep, battle hard and defend their lead against a determined Folkestone side. With tensions rising and the clock ticking down, Sarah produced a fantastic glove save near the end of the game to keep Folkestone out and ensure Blackheath could take the victory home.
It wasn’t always pretty, but it was full of grit, determination and teamwork. The girls fought for every ball, backed each other up and showed real resilience when it mattered most.
A well-earned win for Blackheath Women’s 2nd XI!?
