Forget about the rugby, Blackheath Ladies 3's are the real champions
Just as England and South Africa began their fight in the rugby World cup, Blackheath ladies 3’s arrived at Avery Hill to begin their own contest with local rivals BBHC. Despite the heavy rain and winds, the team warmed up focused on the task in hand, to secure another win.
The match got off to an even start and an early attack from BBHC which surprised Blackheath lead to a 1-0 goal lead. Not put off by this, Blackheath ladies 3’s found their fighting spirit and started to build play. The first goal was secured by Robyn, she dribbled along the baseline and passed to Cat Drum on the penalty spot who slapped it just out of the goalie’s reach. From this point onwards Blackheath were dominating possession and another goal was obtained before half time, this time it was an mighty strike from Robyn as part of a short corner.
The team had forgotten all about the ruby by this point, totally focused on the second half off the match, hungry to get more goals. Nicole Jackson scored the next goal, it was a spectacular strike that ricocheted off the goalie’s helmet into the back of the net. The final score of the match was 3-1 to Blackheath ladies. After the match some were happy and others sad to find out the final rugby score, but all players were elated with the day's team work and success.
Woman of the match was awarded to Hannah Richmond for excellent play in midfield, key to building the team’s attempts on goal and DoD went to Grace for having been up late the previous evening.
