About Our Camps
Stickwise hockey camps are designed to make learning fun! Children are told what to do at school, at home as well at their sports clubs and rightly so! However we are seeing more players quitting hockey at younger ages.
Our camps are designed with the players themselves in mind. We want to keep hockey fun and constantly remind them why they started playing to begin with. Our skilled coaches still deliver high quality sessions and up to date techniques, however it is done in a more relaxed and open environment. The players themselves can dictate what they want to learn along with the coaches input advising them of other skills they may not have been aware of.
We welcome players of all standards. Please dress your child appropriately for different weather conditions. Hats, gloves and base layers in the cold, waterproofs in the wet and suncream and a hat on sunny days. Also please ensure they have plenty to drink and a suitable packed lunch. All children must wear shin pads, gum shields are HIGHLY recommended and sticks can be provided. All coaches are first aid qualified and CRB checked.
Structure of a day
The camp is split into groups taking into account ages and abilities.
Total beginners –5/6/7 year olds.
Intermediate ability (This group also caters for older players who are new to hockey)
Experienced, school/club 1st team, County etc.
Players are allowed to switch between groups if they feel the group that they are in is too easy/too young or too old/too hard. The coaches will constantly keep an eye on each individual and make sure players are assigned to the right groups.
Many players over the years who have joined the camps as beginners have gone on to join BOEHC as a result of their Stickwise experience, we have even had a 1st timer at Stickwise go on to play for England.
We quite often have very young, very shy players who come and don’t want to stay because they don’t know anyone, sometimes we even see some tears, however, thanks to our team of awesome child friendly coaches, we have never had a player not stay for the day and they always come back all excited the next day to see their new friends and their new coach. These players normally go on to become regular campers.
