Sunshine Hockey

When these girls play hockey the sun shines. Clear blue skies and warm sunshine greeted the girls for this triangular tournament in Sevenoaks, also graced by Burnt Ash HC.

Fair to say the attitude and enthusiasm of the girls matched the weather. They were bright and energetic throughout, warming their travelling supporters. Both the Blackheath Bears and Blackheath Bulldogs were young teams, certainly compared to their opposition for the day. Despite their early reservations as to how they would cope with the size and experience of the other teams, they certainly rose to the challenge. Their determination was there for all to see.

There were some tough battles, not all of which they were victorious in, but they remained positive and resilient throughout the tournament. And along the way produced some accomplished and entertaining hockey, cutting through opposition defences to score some wonderful team goals. Very much putting into play all of their hard work on the training pitch, using space, passing and combining well as a team.

Defensively too, great resilience was shown. Some tough tackling and improved technique repelling opposition attacks, and clearing their lines with calm heads.

Very pleasing to see that the early season promise of the previous home tournament has continued with them on their travels.

The Bears managed a return of 2 wins and 2 narrow losses, whilst the Bulldogs achieved 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss.

Watching on in the latter stages were the Blackheath U14 Girls team and management, due to take the pitch afterwards (and recorded a fantastically emphatic victory), who commented on the quality of play but most importantly how great it was to see the girls playing with smiles on their faces, and ultimately having great fun.

Onward they march, confidence steadily growing, team spirit building, and smiles on their faces.
