Great Ingredients but Bread Failed to Rise
It was chilly, windy and nearly in French territory by the time BE’s started their first match of the 2020 season. After a very promising start, BE’s clearly failing dough was in need of resuscitation. After much kneading and fanning of flame by all members of BE’s team, they were rewarded when Carmel scored a great first goal. By the second half, both teams were at each other’s heals. Daphne was clocking up some Fitbit mileage. Alex ran and gained ball constantly. Gina scored the second goal, a third for BE’s was disallowed. Sandra saved a good few tries, Iona and Louise thwarted many attacks and BE’s were back, but at 2-3, with seconds to go, did they have enough to create a draw? Ali picks up the ball, Ali takes ball into the circle, she picks THE only gap on the goal line, she shoots, she was scoring, when a well-meaning BE stick intervened, with all best intentions and deflected the ball out of the goal. Final whistle!
Wally of the Match went unanimously to said holder of stick, Carmel, whilst Man of the Match went unanimously to Expert Baker Alex for sustained kneading and fanning.
Final score a close defeat, 2-3.
