A late push back can be tricky but it was sunny when we arrived to warm up and the mood was sparkly. For the first half we had a whopping TWELVE players, so thanks to those who made themselves available.
After scoring two goals Ita could be excused for having to leave after the first half. Her goals were accompanied by more from Karen and Claire. Lindsay positioned herself beautifully on the post and after countless near misses, was rewarded with two goals. The New Beccs goalie had a blinding match, she stopped way more goals than we scored.
At the start of the second half, Netty stunned us all with a goal in the first minute, which brought her tally to two and the Diamonds to a glistening 8!
The defence, in the shape of Cat B, Sandra and Daphne weren’t loafing around as Sue (GK) had decided a game of hockey roulette might spice things up a bit. A couple of runaway balls tonked from the back of New Beccs half were rolling into the circle - off the back line we thought. But no! Sue judged them to be slowing down and came out with flying kicks and pretty much her only action of the day. Apart from a couple (?) of short corners, all three backs enjoyed time up in the New Beccs circle, with Cat B on the hunt for a goal. When required, Daphne’s tackling was on point and Sandra switched from the front to the back line with ease.
We don’t have any official whippets (under 16s) in the Diamonds but Kat A, Dr Abi and Emily assumed that role. Always in the right place (or running to it) at the right time, they fed the ball into the D and around the pitch with fluency. Coming from out of nowhere, Abi shot across our circle to pick up a runaway ball in the last 5 minutes. Magic!
D is definitely for Diamonds and this polished performance brought its reward with a string of 8 beauties.
