Having had a number of weeks off, this was a much needed run out against a much improved Old Williamsonians. Good in patches, lethargic at times and darn right lazy at others saw the 2's spurn many chances to record a comfortable win. Had the boys taken their chances and got on the posts then 10 simple tap ins would have seen life look a lot more simple for the men in red. Strikers take note......
What this game did serve to do was remind the boys that we cannot just show up and expect to win, we must put in the hard yards and we must finish teams off. Before BOE had scored they had numerous chances to go ahead but it was not until Andy 'Danny Glover' Clover hit a reverse tommahawk into the OW's roof that BOE registered a goal. We went flat after this and OW's deservedly equalised and could almost have gone 2-1 ahead if it wasnt for the heroic Ryan Bishop in goal.
As the game went on BOE had more and more chances but as they remained wasteful, OW's felt they could nick a winner. Thankfully we held strong with good debut performances from James Goldsmith Jnr, Ben Van Zyl and straight off the plane from SA Ryan Wallace. More hard work needs to be put in and a far more ruthless approach in the D. This side are full of goals, but the ball won't go in by itself.........
Onward, upward and Burnt Ash 3's at the Meadow this saturday.
Here we go.
Many thanks to David Wells and Martin Harris for their splendid umpiring, much appreciated in a very well controlled game.
