A late start at home to struggling Folkestone handed the 2s a golden opportunity to finally put all relegation fears to rest.

With Edd's pre-match pep talk ringing in their ears, Blackheath started on the front foot, and soon found themselves 1-0 up. A slick passing move starting from defence saw Chris send Archie through on goal, with the veteran striker finishing of the move with a sublime lob over the keeper.

This early lead galvanised the team, and a second goal soon followed from a short corner. Drag-flicker Aran played a one-two with the keeper before firing the ball home with his second attempt.

The 2s now looked fully in control and, with some quick passing across the midfield, seemed to be creating chances at will. However, Blackheath failed to extend their lead, allowing Folkestone to gain a foothold in the game.

With the game much more open, chances began to fall Folkestone's way, and eventually they pegged a goal back with a looping drag flick deceiving James in goal. Moments later the game was almost level, with only the post coming to Blackheath's rescue.

Determined not to squander their lead, Blackheath pushed forward and won another short corner, courtesy of some fine link-up play from the forward line. Aran stepped up once more, but his effort was saved, prompting a frenzied goalmouth scramble. What happened next is much in contention, though everyone agrees it definitely wasn't Scott who applied the final touch.

Blackheath should have gone into the break 2 goals to the good, but before the half time whistle sounded, there was time for one more piece of drama. Some sub-par defending enabled one of the Folkestone forwards to dribble into the D and get a shot away. James got a touch but was unlucky to see the ball deflect of his pad into the back of the net. Half time, 3-2.

Having lost from a winning position at half time in their last home game, Blackheath were determined to not to let their lead slip; and, in one of the more solid second-half performances of the season, they did not disappoint.

With Eddy and Rich in control of the centre of midfield, Blackheath passed the ball confidently, and looked firmly the better side. As fatigue inevitably started to set in, the passing game began to break down, inviting Folkestone further forward. But in a passage of play not against the run of play, Blackheath found themselves with another short corner and a chance to put the game to bed. A series of passes saw the ball fall to Edd, who calmly slotted away, sparking scenes of jubilation.
