'A game of village hockey sees the 2nd XI lose for the first time this season'

Injustice (noun)
lack of fairness or justice
an unjust act or occurrence
Example: being nominated as DOTD in a match that contained several of the most vote-worthy, and crucially game-changing, incidents so far this season
Now, if the definition of the word 'injustice' at the top of an article doesn't make you want to read on, then you really should question why you're taking the time to read a Blackheath 2nd XI match report. After all, by this point you already know the result, you probably already know the score, and you may even be lucky enough to have met one of the athletes present at Herne Bay, giving you access to a first-hand account of the match. Either way, there isn't going to be a lot about the game that you don't already know. That is of course, unless the real reason you're perusing this report is to find out the really interesting parts, i.e. - who f***** up, and how badly.

(DISCLAIMER: Please note that all timings are approximate, and some events may be in slightly the wrong order/ heavily edited)

15' - The home side produce a smart move from midfield, sending their centre forward through one-on-one. Despite Kelly's best efforts the ball is slotted in for the opening goal of the game, 1-0.

28' - Marwaha receives the ball from Lawrence on the right wing, and goes on a dazzling run, beating 3 defenders before drawing a foul to win Blackheath's first short corner of the game. Clarke steps up and fires an unstoppable drag into the bottom right hand corner. 1-1, game on.

33' - Patel receives a knock and decides that physical contact isn't really for him, Blackheath essentially down to 2 substitutes.

HALF TIME: 1-1 (Yes the first half really was that poor)

44' - One of the umpires takes issue with the frightening manner with which 5 foot 3 inch Will Leverton looked at him following a questionable decision. After being threatened with a red card, Leverton decides he's heard enough and walks away mid-lecture; fortunately his petulance is only punished by a green.

47' - A loose ball in the D falls to Ivens, but his sweetly struck reverse stick effort is well saved by the Herne Bay stopper.

50' - Lawrence attempts to force his way through the opposition defence, but is body checked 0.5 yards outside the D. The guilty party gets a green, but incredibly only a free hit is awarded. The 2s fail to capitalise on their man advantage.

52' - Kelly produces a fine save to keep the score level, pushing aside a close range attempt that was destined for the top corner.

55' - Venturing forward from the back, Purewal creates only the second open-play chance of the game for Blackheath. A well angled ball into the D finds Little unmarked, but his deflection goes inches wide.

57' - Herne Bay once again go down to 10 after Marwaha is fouled cynically. A good opportunity to push for the lead....

60' - Blackheath concede against the 10 men. Fowler inexplicably decides that a long corner awarded to the opposition is the perfect opportunity to substitute himself off. The ball is passed square, before being slung in and deflected into the bottom corner. Whilst attempting to admonish himself of any responsibility during the post-match analysis in The Railway, Fowler stated (without a hint of irony), ''It didn't matter, I was nowhere near the ball''. That's kind of the point mate....

64' - A quick exchange between Pendergast and Marwaha at a long corner sees the latter burst into the D, drawing yet another poor tackle and winning the second short corner of the game for the away side. After scoring in the bottom right corner with his first flick, Clarke- attempting to write the headlines himself- decides to 'Go Hollywood', his effort going harmlessly high and wide of the left hand post.

67' - With the game now a frantic form of attack v defence, a final golden opportunity falls to Blackheath. Lawrence picks up the ball just outside the area, dribbles past 2 and unleashes a shot towards the bottom corner. It looks to be heading agonisingly wide of the mark, but Thorogood is on hand at the back post, the hook of his stick almost in the goal itself, surely any touch will do.....IT'S GONE WIDE! The sigh of relief from the Herne Bay players almost audible in France.

FINAL SCORE:

Herne Bay 1st XI 2-1 Blackheath 2nd XI

MOTM - Kelly: Made several fine saves to keep the score at 1-1

DOTD - Marwaha: Took the bullet(s) for Patel/Leverton/Fowler/Clarke/Thorogood by running his mouth off in the bar
