For anyone that hasn’t yet experienced the delights of skiing and the amazing views from Mont-Blanc I’ll try to paint a picture! Or you can click the link and follow the page!
As the sun sets @chaletlafriaz at 1329M and the temperatures drop well below freezing. (Thanks to storm Dennis, much like the sideline of the pitch)
We begin to settle in for the night around a warm fire and share our near death experiences of the day, like when taking on an icy black run an nearly skiing into a tree or being hit square in the face from a short corner like Rob H in the second half.
Thankfully the mask did it job!
Both teams keen to take on today’s challenge but an early goal for Hailsham 1’s meant BEHC had an up hill struggle in the first half.
A couple of strong tackles in each half from Paddy and Marly saw them sent to the side lines for a two minute greens, BE dug in an played better with 10 men!
Never the less when standing at the top of your first Icy black run, you look for your friends and experience to get you going. Never argue with the mountain or it will bite you!! Just like the umpires...
Some great hockey and skill from Will L beating two players then smashing the near post. Cosy had two great chances on the back post. Then finally Oli sending one home to get us back to 1-1 with minuets to go!
When you reach the end of the black run and finally think you are in control you have a moment to look back and reflect on you achievement.
In life’s lessons I think umpires are like mountains you can shout as much as you want at them but they will always have the last word. Some are easy going like a green run, others are quick at decision making and you have to react accordingly or you end up flat on ur face sliding down a red run for 10 minutes.
Ultimately it’s my choice to go skiing and just like a black run I should respect it more and just shut up and enjoy the Skiing!
Time to learn from the past and go again this Saturday...
