On a day when the 1's & 3's had already won BOE 2's were in high spirits going into their first league game. Right from the off BOE threatened with Tom Piesold missing out on 2 clear 1 on 1's in the first 8 minutes. The visitors continued to press and first Thorogood then Andy Clover had strikes in the D that should have hit the target. As BOE mounted the pressure Burnt Ash became more assured and with their first real attack located the only attacker in the D for a deflected goal to put the home side 1-0 up. BOE had to raise their game and, after winning a corner, the rebounds pinged about the D eventually finding Edd Thorogood who flicked into the goal to level things up 1-1 at half time.
The second half saw much of the same as BOE pored forward but again were found wanting in the final 3rd. A good move down the left finally brought some joy as Greg Broughton slipped in Chris Brown and the forward located Tom Orange to put BOE ahead 2-1. Burnt Ash were full of running and never gave up but it was once again BOE who squandered posession and more chances as opportunities went whistling wide of the post. Some debatable umpiring led to an Ash corner 5 mins from time and despite the injection being misplaced the stopper managed to take it on himself and smash the ball into the bottom corner. BOE pushed for a winner but with just 9 men on the pitch having had Ison and Moore harshly dismissed the game was up. Burnt Ash never have up and with BOE wasteful in front of goal the home side did all the could to salvage a point. BOE need to learn to put games to bed early when they have the chance but the effort and determination from the boys cannot be doubted.
MOTM: Tom Orange.
