This was an utter nightmare for the not so Mighty 3s who never got out of the traps against a well organised and talented OB's 2nd XI side. This OB''s 2s side were relegated last season but impressively showed why they are early season favourites for promotion and the clubs second team.
BOE found themselves 2-0 down inside 5 mins from well executed and clinical penalty corners and never really recovered. They had to chase and push the game to try and get a foothold but were punished at every turn. Coupled with a catalogue of personal errors and mistakes BOE gifted OB's a very easy win.
A strong 10 minute spell at the very beginning of the second half that saw some good, slick, passing hockey and a fine finish from Jake Lamplough to ensure the team didn't go away empty handed was the only glimmer of good in an otherwise appalling display of mediocre hockey from The Club.
It was always going to be a tough game but the result is unacceptable. More was expected. The lads need to make amends quickly. The team and players are much better than an 8-1 defeat but it wasn't their day as too many played well below their ability. Perhaps a rude awakening early doors will wake them up to the challenging season ahead. Anymore displays like this and it will be a long and torturous 6 months.
