A potential banana skin was avoided & managed well by an experienced 3s team. It's always difficult playing against a team who have lost the first 3 games of the campaign. Coming off a defeat against a team we should have won against last week saw us come out determined. A similar pattern of dominating possession and creating chances ensued. Ali Basham picked up the ball on the 25 and skillfully juggled the ball past 2 defenders and deft fully flicked the ball past the on rushing goalkeeper. We where thankful to Seb for making some great saves and keeping us up in the game. Possession was dominated again, chances where wasted again. We went in to half time wondering how we where only 1 up. A call at half time to remain patient was soon gone as a resurgent Ashford pushed us back and tried for the equaliser. This didn't look like a side who hadn't scored a goal this season. Credit to the younger players from Ashford who caused havoc. Iain McLean kept it solid at the back for Blackheath ably supported with Gobbler at left back and Scott at right.
A midfield of Forsyth, the impressive Raf, and Hegarty (who is growing into his role well) kept Ashford at arms length. As Ashford tired chances started to open. Nick Surry thankfully took one of these chances well.
Blackheath had chances to see the game off but where wasteful throughout the forward line. Nevertheless - A job done, a 2nd clean sheet but plenty of work to be done. We look forward to a tough game against a national league playing club Sevenoaks next week.
