HONOURS EVEN AT THE MEADOW

The weather had turned, and so with it the change of the guard for the mighty 3’s. An injection of youth with the introduction of Jack, Fergus, Harvey and Josh to complement the more experienced gents around them has meant a better brand of hockey and a more focused environment, but a cutting edge is missing somewhat.

Early possession saw the M3’s get in good positions and Surry might have found Thorogood at the far post but his shot was turned away. Wave after wave of attacks were petering out into little danger for the visitors as the M3’s struggled to find a man in the deeper part of the D. Against the run of play Marden would break and score a ‘banger’ but the defending was a little suspect as we showed their forward into the D rather than out wide.

A fairly immediate response say the 3’s back on level terms as Paddy picked up the pieces and flicked home from close range. Some excellent crash balls in from Mulvanny and some cute work from Dow and Nesbit gave BE some hope down the right but no home forward could be found.

The second half saw much of the same as BE flowed forwards and Marden soaked up the pressure and broke with pace and intensity, twice Bullens had to come to the rescue coming off his line and twice the opposition were foiled. Good work down the right from Harvey saw the Marden keeper make a save that fell to Josh and he clinically flicked home from 7 yards. 2-1 up and in control.

More balls in and loose efforts in the D came and went, sometimes a push or deflection will do but we need to get in the mixer. Marden finished strongly and a slightly dubious reverse bobbler, some how found its way in to level things up.

Plenty of good play, not enough productivity but a step in the right direction for a promising side that will continue to get better.
